<lead><![CDATA[Steve Holcomb, who piloted the 'Night Train' to the first U.S. Olympic gold medal in the four-man bobsled in 62 years, in Vancouver, has been selected as the official torch lighter for the 2010 Rocky Mountain State Games. The Colorado Springs resident, who paved the way for his gold medal run by training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, will finish the evening at the opening ceremony July 30 at the World Arena by igniting the official games cauldron.]]></lead>
<text><![CDATA[Holcomb continues the tradition of Olympic stars chosen to light the torch at State Games openings, adding to a list that includes Rulon Gardner, Michelle Kwan, Apolo Ohno, Derek Parra and Henry Cejudo.“We are thrilled that Steve has accepted our invitation,” said Colorado Springs Sports Corp. President and CEO Tom Osborne. “He represents the kind of struggle and sacrifice that athletes make to reach the podium, and the Olympic presence in Colorado Springs that is so much of the fabric of this city and its history.”The Utah native won gold with teammates Steve Mesler, Justin Olsen and Curt Tomasevicz, all former college football players, as they upset the legendary German sled driven by four-time Olympic champion Andre Lange. The games, July 30-Aug. 1, are open to athletes of all ages and skill levels in Colorado and 35 sports will be contested in venues across the city including the Air Force Academy, OTC, Fort Carson, Colorado College, Memorial Park and several high schools.Registration and information for athletes can be found at www.coloradospringssports.org.]]></text>
